:   China and Russia hold eighth round of military consultations in Beijing between deputy chief of the PLA general staff Xiong Guangkai and the First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Col-Gen Yuriy Baluyevskiy. They discussed “issues which the military regards as sensitive … such as the military and political situation in the Asia-Pacific Region.” Baluyevskiy and the PLA’s Chief of the General Staff Liang Guanglie also hold staff-level talks. Chinese Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan also met with Baluyevskiy.
